On June 3, Kyla Wazana Tompkins, professor of English and gender and women’s studies, won a James Beard award for her essay “On Boba,” published in the The Larb Quarterly of the Los Angeles Review of Books.
For 20 years, the Pomona College Academy for Youth Success has helped students in Greater Los Angeles get ready for college through an intensive, three-summer residential program on campus. Students have gone on to attend the nation’s top colleges.
Students in Prof. Heidi Haddad’s politics class this spring researched abortion measures, introduced or enacted post-Dobbs, across all 50 states. They presented their findings to staff from the office of California Gov. Newsom in Sacramento in May.
Three Pomona College students did research this summer in the Center for Computational Astrophysics at the Flatiron Institute in New York City, thanks to the efforts of Jorge Moreno, assistant professor of physics and astronomy.
